European Daphne Project-Involved by RightEuropean Daphne Project
Involved by Right

Involved by Right is an EU Daphne programme grant-funded project which seeks to improve participation and advocacy in child protection to achieve better outcomes for children at risk.

The project is unique in that it will ensure the active participation of children with experience of the child protection system and those in public care. The project started in March 2011 and will end in February 2013. A strong partnership has been brought together to bring expertise of children's rights to frontline practitioners: Barnardo's and National Children's Bureau (NCB) – two UK non-government organisations, and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (UK) Helsingborg local authority (Sweden) and the local Social Health Unit in Bassano del Grappa ( Italy).

Disability and Active Citizenship
[D-ACTIVE]

Project type: LLP / Grundtvig - Multilateral Projects
Ref. no.: 510773-LLP-1-2010-1-ITGRUNDTVIG-GMP

Promoter /Coordinator: Consorzio CO&So Firenze, Italy
Duration: 2 years

http://www.dactivellp.eu/

The D-ACTIVE project has been granted and will be co financed by the GRUNDTVIG program from 2010 to 2012.

The D-ACTIVE project aims at fostering active citizenship and learning among a particular adult target group at high risk of marginalization : persons with intellectual disability. The project partners (both institutional and private) have recognized the following problems concerning the target group : difficulty in implementing activities aimed at developing key and specialistic competencies (according to recommendations proposed by the European Council as in the Barcelona Conference 12/05/2009 and 2020) difficulty in providing European methods in order to foster the concrete development of essential competencies for becoming active citizens and finding better jobs. Starting from a tool used in clinical and social fields – the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, the so-called ICF (recommended by WHO) and in order to address the needs explained above, the D-ACTIVE project aims at creating and experimenting multidimensional and integrated tools and applicative models in education.

Summary of the project
As demographers point out European society, like all the other western developed countries, is characterised by a persistent and long term ageing of the demographic structure: in European countries the proportion of citizens aged 65 and over is constantly increasing and it is expected to accelerate its rise in the next 40 years. If in 2008 the proportion of population aged 65 and over is about 20%, in 2050 it will become almost 30% of the total population. This datum depicts an alarming scenario in which Europe will be the oldest geographical area in the world. The recoils of these socio-demographic aspects will be particularly alarming for those countries, Mediterranean countries first of all, where the family is the most important (and many times the only) care giving agency: who then will take care of “frail” old people?

The project, leaded by Veneto Region, has 10 partners from 5 countries. Its objective is to provide an opportunity for a group of professional people belonging to Public Bodies and Youth NGOs (youth organizations as well as organizations working with young people) - who are directly involved in working on the issue of young people living in so-called deprived neighbourhoods or disadvantaged European urban areas and experiencing circumstances typically given in deprived neighbourhoods - to work together through the activation of concrete actions involving young people, exchange good practices and start a long term cooperation process within the context of non formal education.
